The workshop has been transformed back to its original 1920s workshop status. A brick-built, separate outbuilding, set away from the main house, it was originally constructed by the first owner, a painter and decorator in 1929. A new bike shed sits tucked away behind the workshop and the rest of the clutter is in the summerhouse at the bottom of the garden!
We’re waiting now for new electrics to be installed and most importantly – heating! It’s toasty at the moment but in winter, the temperature is exactly the same inside and out!
There is a a large central workbench with the original workbench carefully preserved, and other workbenches sit around the outside with storage for materials. Two separate tables can be moved around and there are stools and chairs for comfort.
The walls and floors are painted and I bought an enormous rug from which makes it feel homely. I learned the hard way what happens when you ignore safety and wear flipflops and slippers while doing traditional upholstery. I thought I’d got glass in my feet! Maybe wear hard soles but feel free to bring your slippers and flipflops anyway. The wooden beams are left as they are. It is almost ready and feels a safe, comforting and welcoming space. I am very excited to begin and totally nervous at the same time.
